In a stunning Twitter post, the criminal defense attorney representing “doomsday mom” Lori Vallow has claimed that her erstwhile friend Melanie Gibb and her boyfriend may have been involved with the disappearance and death of Vallow’s two children, Crime Online reports.
Lori Vallow and her husband, “cult dad” Chad Daybell, stand accused of conspiring to hide the bodies of her two kids, JJ Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 17, who were last seen in September 2019 and reported missing some two months later and whose remains were finally discovered hidden on Daybell’s Salem, Idaho, property on June 6. Daybell is an evangelist of the cult Avow and managed to rope in Lori as well as their mutual friend Melanie Gibb into his twisted beliefs about Armageddon and zombies.
Lori and Chad will celebrate their first wedding anniversary on November 5 while sitting in jail cells in separate yet adjacent counties in eastern Idaho, awaiting jury trials in 2021 that could end up getting combined.
On September 23, the last day JJ was seen alive, Melanie Gibb and her boyfriend, David Warwick, were at the end of a short visit to Rexburg, Idaho, and staying with Lori in the apartment that she had just started renting in the small town at the beginning of the month. Vallow’s attorney Mark Means tweeted a week ago a suggestion that Gibb and Warwick, who testified against Chad Daybell at his probable cause hearing in August, know more than they have been letting on about what happened to the little boy.
Means attached an image of scurrying rats to his tweet.
‘Cult Mom’ Lori Vallow’s lawyer claims good friend Melanie Gibb and her boyfriend were involved ‘in more than they let on’
Nate Eaton, the grand sage of all things Lori Vallow at East Idaho News, who has been doggedly following her and Chad Daybell’s case since news of it broke nearly a year ago, subsequently tweeted that he conferred with Melanie Gibb about Means’ accusation.
Her response? “The truth will prevail.”
After JJ’s grandmother called Rexburg police and requested a welfare check on the boy, who had ADHD and autism spectrum disorder, the local authorities went to the homes of Lori Vallow as well as her brother, Alex Cox, who had started renting a unit in the same apartment complex as Vallow in September. Chad happened to be at Alex’s house at the time and pretended to be only vaguely acquainted with the woman he’d only just married. Vallow spun her own web of lies to the police, including the suggestion that JJ was back in Arizona, staying with Melanie Gibb.
Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell each then contacted Melanie Gibb and asked her to back up the falsehood that she was taking care of JJ, Inside Edition reports.
”As I prepare the defense for Lori (Vallow) Daybell… I am learning that persons like Melanie Gibbs and her boyfriend David Warwick appear to have been eagerly “involved” in more than they let on… if you know something… Say something!” Mark Means posted to his Twitter account around noon Wednesday.
Lori Daybell’s Lawyer Used Twitter to Find Witnesses Was ‘Permissible’: Former Attorney General
Insider Edition conferred with a former Idaho Attorney General, who called Means’ use of Twitter to find witnesses “novel” yet permissible.
Melanie Gibb and David Warwick are expected to be called as witnesses at Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow’s trials, which are currently slated for January and April 2021, respectively.
Melanie Gibb began working with authorities within days of Lori Vallow’s request that she lie to them. The Fremont County, Idaho, courthouse heard a recording at Chad’s probable cause hearing that Melanie surreptitiously made last December of a three-way phone call with Lori and Chad. In this conversation, she grilled the newlyweds on JJ’s whereabouts and expressed grave concerns about their spiritual state and moral foundation. Lori and Chad, for their own parts, lied their heads off.
AS WEMJ notes, neither Lori nor Chad has been charged with murder — yet.
Authorities have not yet said how exactly the children died or who caused their deaths. Court documents suggest JJ was buried in a pet cemetery on Chad Daybell’s property and that Tylee’s remains were dismembered and burned.
Police say missing kids’ mom helped keep their bodies hidden
Investigators finally tracked down the children’s bodies in June after analyzing cell phone location data from Alex Cox.
They found that Lori’s brother traveled from the Rexburg apartment complex to Chad’s property in Salem on two key dates in September. They believe he first transported Tylee’s body for secret burial and then two weeks later did the same with JJ’s.
Alex died in December of a blood clot in his lung. The previous July, he shot Lori’s previous husband, Charles Vallow, to death in what he said was self defense.
Aside from the latest drama with Melanie Gibb, the big news in the Lori Vallow case is that Chad Daybell’s hearing to determine if the court will dismiss his case, originally slated for October 29, will now be held on November 24, The Post Register reports.
A hearing to discuss combining Daybell’s trial with his wife Lori Vallow’s is still set for 10 a.m. on Oct. 29 at the Fremont County Courthouse. Prior has objected to a combined case due to fears of increased media attention. Vallow’s attorney Mark Means has filed documents saying he has no objection.
