Whatsapp worm is infecting user’s contact lists. Messages embedded with malware are being sent to users in form of messages. So as soon as a user opens the message, his contact list gets infected. The malware is also known as “Android Worm”. WhatsApp is frequently used by cybercriminals to send infected messages to users and retrieve their sensitive information or disable their account.
The Android Warm is infecting users’ contact lists without their knowledge, Said Security researcher Lukas Stefanko. He shared a video explaining how the malware infects a device and addressed, “Android WhatsApp Worm? Malware spreads via victim’s WhatsApp by automatically replying to any received WhatsApp message notification with a link to malicious Huawei Mobile app. The message is sent only once per hour to the same contact. It looks to be adware or subscription scam.”
Stefanko explained that the malware enters the user’s Whatsapp through a message. Then adds adware on the user’s phone and then without their knowledge, it sends a message to the user’s contact list. Thus infecting a huge chain of users. A report revealed that “the user gets a message from an unknown number containing a link. Further, the sender asks you to open the link to win a smartphone or some handsome amount of money. Please remember the message and page interface has been made in a way that it would look real. But users, BEWARE!
Once you click the infecting link, the message got sent from your name to another user in your contact list.
“This malware could possibly distribute more dangerous threats since the message text and link to the malicious app are received from the attacker’s server. It could simply distribute banking Trojans, ransomware, or spyware,” the ESET blog read.
The best way to get rid of these messages is not to open any link saying you to win a smartphone or car or anything else.
Your safety is in Your hands! So, be careful!
