YouTube for Android adds the ability to share specific video chapters directly

YouTube new feature

Key Specifications

  • YouTube rolls out a new feature that lets users send Video Chapters directly.
  • YouTube introduces this feature for Android users.
  • Earlier, this feature was rolled out for YouTube Web Users.

YouTube app for Android is set to introduce the ability to share video chapters directly. Sometimes you want to share a video with someone, and you want it to start at a certain point. The Android YouTube app just got an update that can do just that. There are, however, some caveats.

Last year, YouTube added a similar feature for web users. Other users are eagerly waiting for this feature. Finally, this feature is rolling out for Android users.

It lets people share videos that start at different points in the video, but it’s not as you’d expect. You can only do this for videos that have chapters.

These videos are cut up into certain sections by the creators. You can share videos that start at the beginning of chapters. You can’t choose a certain second that the video starts, but this is the next best thing.

Android users can share a chapter rather than sending a link that starts at the beginning of the video. The resulting link contains the timestamp of the chapter, so people who get the link will go directly to the part you shared.

Till now, there was no way of sharing a video link with a particular timestamp through the app that would allow the recipient to start the video from exactly where you wanted.

The chapters on YouTube contain titles and show up as markers on the video seek bar, marking the beginning and end of chapters.

The feature was spotted by Android Police on Tuesday. We tested the feature on app version 16.24.33. In case you can’t see the new link share feature on the YouTube Android app, try updating it.

How to share videos with timestamps on Android

Tap on the title of the chapter which reveals proper above the video search bar and you will note a listing of chapters with a share icon subsequent to them.

Then, tap the share icon for the particular chapter you want and use one of the many modes of sharing to send the video to someone.

The recipient will receive the YouTube link with a timestamp that will start the video exactly from that timestamp.
